Artwork by James LaCroce, Ph.D.

Dr. James LaCroce has written and illustrated three books featuring the characters Chimpy and Matthew Chicken. His books have focused on Chimpy and Matthew Chicken dealing with gay adoption, community violence, and going to therapy. All are based in San Francisco in the last decade and reflect the city’s ever-changing queer community. As the local LGBTQ community has evolved, the art in the books has become more refined. Yet it still maintains its whimsy. Dr. LaCroce, a clinical psychologist by trade, enjoys creating art as a therapeutic outlet for himself.

Dr. LaCroce is honored to be a participating artist in the 2019 Windows for Harvey Celebration. Windows for Harvey is a neighborhood-wide celebration honoring Harvey Milk around the time of his birthday on May 22. Participating neighborhood merchants and artist create installations inspired by Harvey and his legacy. Dr. LaCroce’s original artwork, Relics for Harvey is currently on display at 2075 Market Street along with digital prints from his 2017 book, A Chimp and a Chicken Go to Therapy.
The original display pieces from the window are available for purchase here in addition to limited edition numbered prints.
